The Story of San Juan Suites

On May 9th 2002, a devastating fire consumed nearly the entire block of downtown Friday Harbor. Volunteer fire fighters from Friday Harbor, San Juan, Orcas and Lopez island fire districts responded to the call and prevented the fire from spreading to other buildings in the downtown core of Friday Harbor's historic district. In 2004 two new buildings were erected and now house eleven businesses, a covered parking garage and these five exclusive extended stay luxury suites.

With a vision, bold determination for rebuilding, and a commitment to the architectural style that characterizes historic Friday Harbor, we worked with the Town's Historic Preservation Review Board to design buildings that would compliment the historic district and accommodate a variety of locally owned and operated small businesses. In 2004 we opened the doors to a new and beautiful future for our town. In 2005 we received the Town's "Partners in Preservation Award" for "Outstanding Achievement in Historically Compatible New Construction" for the Friday Harbor Center project. We also received the "Building of the Year" award from the construction industry for new commercial mixed-use buildings in our five state region.
